The Topshop Unique spring/summer 2017 collection was an amalgam of influence from the ‘80s, New Wave and exhibitionism. This can clearly be seen in some of the prints, layering and colors and the cuts. The silhouettes are an updated take but the ‘80s reminiscent quality can still clearly be seen. There was definitely drama in the see-now-buy-now collection (available on Topshop.com) with trench coats, thigh-high splits and floating sheer bandage dresses.
With a touch of today’s preferred sexy in the form of the currently popular sheer bandage dresses that fashion are revamped from the same time period, the Topshop Unique spring 2017 ready-to-wear collection is a lot of fun. The variety of styles, materials, patterns, and silhouettes to consider made the collection have no low points. Even the revamped ‘80s style hair made the Topshop spring runway so much fun to watch.
You can see the variance of inspiration in the range of jackets alone with so many different cuts, and thus silhouettes as well. One bomber jacket has a fur collar, which matches the short fur coat. There are four different trench coats, several different sports coats, and even a few more.
There is business wear, casual wear, outerwear and fun eveningwear. As seems to be the trend for spring, there were a few very pretty floral patterned items, like the grey patterned shirt with the pink roses and green leaves. This was paired with a set of high waisted patent leather looking pants, bright fuchsia shoes and was topped off with a beautiful grey coat.
Most of the wow factor, however, was in the detailed touches. The very first look featured a blue and black zebra pattern on the high-necked shirt, over a pair of high waisted navy blue pants. The unexpected burnt orange shoes were an interesting touch.
The biggest throwback on the runway of the Topshop Unique spring/summer 2017 collection was definitely the halter dress. There were a lot of bold touches that did not just include high splits and tight clothes but also bright colors like yellow, fuchsia and the closing outfits were stunning. The final dresses to close the show had very high splits and a lot sheer as well. These dresses will certainly catch attention.
Topshop has been around since 1964, so they were definitely around during the ‘80s and were able to pull their inspiration from some of the looks they sold back then. Topshop Unique is well known for being a fashionable staple and a reliable source for inspiration at the very least.
The Topshop Unique spring 2017 collection is just a reminder that this Topshop can be relied on to provide interesting and fun clothing.
